The building is home to the largest public telescope in the state, and Nassau Night Sky Viewings will take place April 13 through June 8th. The history of the Observatory Park can be traced to the early 1950s. The Nassau Astronomical Station was originally operated by the astronomy department of Case Western Reserve University, which moved there from Taylor Road in East Cleveland. At the time, the observatory was equipped with a Burrell Schmidt-type telescope. But the astronomy department moved the observatory to Montville to better serve its visitors.

At that time, Montville Township’s Clay Street had an existing observatory known as Warner & Swasey, which housed a Burrell Schmidt-type telescope. When the Nassau Observatory was moved to Montville, the area was considered an ideal location.
