Southington Township Community Park
Located on State Route 534 and Warren Burton Road in Southington, Ohio, the Southington Township Community Park is a great spot for your next family outing. You can also find the park on Google maps. The Apple Harvest Festival brings the community together for one of the best celebrations of the year. Held annually since 1969, this celebration includes a parade, carnival rides, music, and a delicious array of food served at various cornerstones of the community. Once a rural farming town, Southington has now become a thriving industrial city, attracting people from all over the world. In fact, this area was home to the first cement to harden in water, the first carriage bolt cutting machine, and the world’s first tinware process. A recent project involves a downtown revitalization effort. With the help of a $50,000 donation from a local businessman, the city has installed decorative iron lamp posts, benches, and trash bins. In addition, flowering trees have been planted, and the former fountain has been relocated from Recreation Park to the town center.
The community park features an historic marker commemorating the French Expedition. The Mattabesset tribe referred to this region as Pagonchawnischage. Beckley purchased 300 acres from the Mattabesset chief Tarramuggus and settled the first homestead in the area in 1659. The township officially became a town in 1779, although Samuel Woodruff had settled there 81 years earlier. From that point, the town was an important transportation hub. Its strategic location helped local industry and commerce thrive.
Howland Community Park
Howland Community Park in Southington is a 172-acre open space in the town center. The park has several facilities for different recreational activities. It is home to a variety of sporting events and family outings. The park is also a popular spot for local residents to have picnics, barbecues and play on playground equipment.
